Las Vegas is a fantastic place and not just for gambling fanatics. For those interested in the 'other stuff' there is so much to do and see. Admittedly it's not a beach holiday or culture 'hot spot', but it is a visual and entertainment masterpiece. The beauty of vegas is that you can freely wander in and around all of it's hotels and every hotel has it's catch. Whether the catch is a 'lion enclosure' at MGM Grand to a 'Secret Garden' at the Mirage or just the many shows that are on offer. In terms of shows, not to be missed is the incredible 'O' show & 'Ka' show from Cirque Du Soleil.
Established in 1905, Las Vegas officially became a city in 1911. With the growth that followed, at the close of the century Las Vegas was the most populous American city founded in the 20th century. It was the 28th most populous city in the United States during the 2000 census. The city owes almost all its current status and reputation to the American mafia. All of the original large casinos were managed or at least funded under mob figures Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel and Meyer Lansky.
The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos. The most famous hotels are located on Las Vegas Boulevard, better known as the Las Vegas Strip. Many of these hotels carry thousands of rooms. There are, of course, large casino areas in these hotels as well. There are many hotel casinos in the city's downtown area as well, which was the original focal point of the city's gaming industry in its early days.

The weather is very hot but as its a dry heat it is bearable and doesnt make you feel clammy. Worth seeing the hoover dam and going to the top of the stratosphere. Try and visit as many hotels as you can. Bus service is ok but there is a lot of traffic on the strip so the journey can take a while.
